What is the passing score for the HESI?

There is no general passing score for the HESI. 

 

Each institution sets its standard for scoring. Some require a minimum of 75% as a cumulative score, while others require between 80-90%. 

 

Some schools will have set scoring requirements for certain sections, such as a minimum of 75% in Mathematics or 85% in Reading Comprehension. 

How is the HESI scored?

The HESI is scored using a 1500-point scale. This is then converted into a 100-point scale. The cumulative score, meaning the overall score you receive on the exam, is the average converted score for each section of the exam. 

How many questions do I need to get right to pass the HESI?

There is no set number of questions you need to get right to pass. 

The questions are worth different points, depending on their difficulty, so the result you receive is not determined by how many answers you got right. 

What is a Good HESI Score?

According to Evolve, a good HESI score is a minimum of 850. This score will be converted into a percentage of around 80%, depending on which questions you missed. 

How do I pass the HESI exam?

To pass the HESI exam means that you received the score required by your program. 

 

To receive your desired score, it is essential that you give yourself plenty of time to review all the modules that you will be tested on. Familiarize yourself with the structure and the types of questions you will encounter on the HESI to ensure a successful exam attempt. 

When will I receive my HESI scores?

You will receive your HESI scores immediately after you finish your exam. 

 

You can also access a more detailed breakdown of your scores in your Evolve account within 7 days. 

How do I get my HESI results?

You can access your HESI results in your Evolve account under 'Students Access.' Under the 'My Exams' tab, you will find a list of all your HESI attempts.

To view your score report, click on 'Admission Assessment Report'.

What is the average HESI A2 score?

The average score on the HESI chart falls between 75-80%. 

This score is considered the lowest score that is still acceptable. In practical terms, a score below 75% will likely not be enough to be accepted into a nursing program. 

What is on the HESI score report? 

On the HESI score report, you will find a detailed breakdown of your performance. 

 

The first section, called 'Summary,' is divided into 6 sections:

  • Your exam score.

  • The number of questions you completed.

  • The class average.

  • The national HESI average.

  • The categories where you scored below 850.

  • The span of possible scores. 

 

The next section is 'Category Performance,' and here you can view a detailed breakdown of your performance in each category. 

At first, you will be shown a graph comparing your performance to the national average, the acceptable and the recommended scores. 

 

Once you select the 'Details' tab, you are shown a table with the number of questions you got right in each topic, the score conversion, and the class average.

You will also find the 'Remediation Plan' section, which contains the remediation packets assigned to you based on your performance. 

What is the HESI score range?

The HESI scores range from 0 to 1500 points. These points are converted into percentages that range from 0 to 100%. 

How do I know if I passed the HESI A2 exam?

The HESI is not an exam that you can pass or fail. Each school sets its criteria for admissions, including the cumulative and individual scores they require. 

You could consider your HESI attempt successful if you scored at least the minimum required by your desired nursing program. 

How long are HESI scores good for?

On average, HESI scores are good for about two years. 

 

However, this can vary from institution to institution. Some will allow HESI scores that are older than two years, while others only allow scores received in the same year as the admission window. 

Can I review my HESI A2 exam?

You cannot review the answers that you gave on the HESI A2. On your score report, you can only see your performance in each section and how many questions you answered correctly.

How do I get my HESI report?

To access your HESI report, log into your Evolve account. From there, click on 'Exam Results'.
