Where can I find details about my HESI exam day?

To find more details about your HESI exam day, you need to check the website of the institution where you will be taking the HESI. 

 

There you should find information about when you should arrive at the school, what you need to bring, and what you are/aren't allowed to wear/have on your person. 

 

If you are taking the HESI at an exam center, they should provide you with some form of guide after you register.  

What to expect on my HESI test day?

The test day requirements are different depending on your institution. There are, however, some standard practices that you can expect, regardless of where you take the exam: 

 

You are required to show some form of valid, approved identification, such as a passport, a driver's license, a state-issued photo ID card, or military ID. 

 

You will be asked to leave all personal items outside the testing room. These include backpacks, jackets, phones, etc. 

 

Always check the requirements of the institution/testing center for the most updated and relevant information.

What to bring to a HESI exam?

The requirements for what you should bring to your HESI differ depending on where you choose to take it. 

However, some basic requirements are present at most institutions/testing centers: 

 

You need to bring an approved form of identification: a driver's license, passport, or military ID. 

 

Some exam centers ask you to have the receipt of your paid testing fee.  

 

You can also bring drinks or snacks. You cannot bring them into the examination room, but you can leave them in lockers or other designated spaces. Usually, you are allowed to access these items during break time. 

Can you have scrap paper on HESI?

You can have scrap paper on the HESI. This is provided by the institution/testing center, so you do not have to bring your own. 

 

If you take the HESI remotely, you are allowed paper or a small whiteboard. 

Can you use a calculator on the HESI test?

You can use a calculator on the HESI. 

 

However, you are not allowed to bring/use your own. A calculator is built into the exam, meaning that it will be available to you on-screen whether you take the exam in person or remotely. 

Can I have a drink during the HESI A2 exam?

You are not allowed to have a drink on your desk during the HESI A2. 

 

If you require this as an accommodation, submit an accommodation request form before testing.

Can I have snacks during the HESI exam?

You are not allowed to have snacks on your desk during the HESI A2 exam. 

 

If you require them as an accommodation, submit an accommodation request form before testing. 

Can I wear a head covering during the HESI?

You can only wear religious head coverings during the HESI A2.

Any other type of head covering, such as hats, caps, or hoods, is not allowed. 

Can I wear headphones during the HESI?

You are not allowed to wear headphones or earbuds during the HESI. 

 

If you require them as an accommodation, submit an accommodation request form before testing. 

What can trigger a flag during the HESI?

Some actions that will trigger a flag during the HESI A2 are: 

 

Talking aloud - you are not allowed to talk or whisper unless you have an accommodation.

Being out of camera view - your entire face must be visible for the entirety of the exam.

Other people in your testing area - make sure that you take the HESI in a private room, with no people coming in or going out at any point.

Taking pictures or screenshots. 

Copying or pasting elements of the exam - the proctoring system will capture all attempts of copying and pasting. 

Utilizing a second monitor. 

 

If you are taking the exam in person, your proctor will outline the actions that are and aren't allowed. 

How will I know if I was flagged during the HESI A2?

You will not know whether or not you were flagged during your exam. This information is only available to the proctors. 

 

If the software detects cheating, your exam will be canceled immediately. 

What are the technical requirements to take the HESI at home?

The technical requirements for taking the HESI A2 at home are: 

 

A webcam with a minimum 640x480 resolution. 

For PC users, the minimum requirement is Windows Vista, but Windows 10 is recommended. 

For Mac users, the minimum requirement is Mac OS X 10.5 or higher. 

The minimum requirement for internet download speed is 768 Mbps and 384 Mbps for upload speed. 

The RAM minimum requirement is 1024 MB, but 2 GB is recommended. 

 

You are also required to have a functioning microphone, a compatible browser (Chrome or Firefox), and the ProctorU extension. 

Make sure you have a private, well-lit, and cleared-off workspace. 

Can you take a break during the HESI A2?

You are allowed small breaks during the HESI. 

 

Most institutions allow you to take breaks to use the restroom, have a drink or snack, or just rest. However, make sure you check the requirements and regulations of your program. Some schools might have a more strict approach. 

How can I apply for HESI A2 accommodations? 

To apply for HESI A2 accommodations, you will need to submit a form/request.

 

If you are taking the HESI at a Prometric exam center, you can submit a request through the Evolve/Elsevier registration portal. 

 

If you are taking the exam at an institution, they will have an outline of their accommodation submission process on their website. Usually, you are required to submit a form at least 30 days before your exam date.
